The Life in Chinatown

I don't understand how people can be so oblivious of their surroundings!? What I'm actually saying is how some people who has lived in London for so many years but cannot speak much English.

They live in Chinatown, work in Chinatown, has Chinese friends, speak in Chinese, listen to Chinese music, watch Chinese drama series and don't even know what are scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam or who Boris Johnson is?... I am not trying to slack my friends off but we all came to London for one main reason, for a change. They probably disagree with me, they came for MONEY!

But how do you justify your life? Working 6 days a week 10 hours a day waiting on tables and having employers who are bullies... and they will obviously have bad living conditions, Chinatown is expensive and not the best place to live in do they have a choice?

Sometimes I do feel sorry for them but hang on a minute, do you see that Chinese girl/guy down the street wearing a Burberry trench coat, holding a Chloe bag paying from their Louie Vutton wallet... do you still feel sorry for them?

5 years in the UK

I have been in London for 5 years now. Time flies so quickly. I remember when I first came here, jobless and quite alone. I was a meek little mouse.

Today after revision class I felt that I have achieved so much in the years that I have been here, more than I ever can if I stayed in Malaysia. It's amazing how our lives can change at a spur of a decision.
I was over the moon, when I was promoted to an Assistant Management Accountant. All these years of persistent hard work finally paid off :) Although I won't be getting much of a pay rise, it's actually the acknowlegment of my competence that actually boost my confidence.

It felt as though there is so much going on at the same time. The new job and responsibilities, the hand over of AP, revision exams round the corner...
oh well, it's all good.. and we are going to Isle of Wight in June. The sand and the fresh air, a bit of sun hopefully. How peaceful, life can be :P
